Course Name Course Objectives and Content
Communication Skills

A highly participative one-day course ideal for those in positions of responsibility or management where effective and influential communication is vital. The course will include practical exercises to aid trainees in building skills together with self-analysis tools.  

Attendees will:

  • Gain enhanced understanding of personal communication strengths and weaknesses
  • Be able to demonstrate and apply effective influential inter-personal techniques
  • Be able to demonstrate improved levels of confidence in presenting self
Conflict Resolution
and
Personal Safety

This course is for employees in the public or private sector who deal with members of the public, whether frequently or occasionally. The qualification is as relevant to a receptionist as it is to caseworkers, trainers or sales staff.

Candidates will be able to understand:

  • The terminology used in conflict resolution
  • The laws that apply to business and their employees
  • The concepts of a safe working environment and how the risk of conflict can be assessed
  • The use of appropriate methods to de-escalate a confrontational situation
  • The importance of personal safety
Emergency First Aid

This course covers the practical skills needed by a first aider in the modern workplace. The course gives delegates the confidence and knowledge to deal with First Aid emergencies.

Candidates will be able to:

  • Familiar with equipment and facilities at work
  • Competent to call the emergency services when required
  • Assessments and management of first aid incidents
Fire Warden

This accredited course aims to raise the profile of Fire Safety awareness amongst employees and thereby reduce the risk of injury to personnel and to other persons and to reduce risk of damage to equipment and premises resulting from fire.

At the end of the course attendees will be able to:

  • Recognise the background to Fire Safety legislation and current legislative implications of fire in the workplace
  • Describe how fire starts and spreads/appreciate basic structural fire safety issues
  • Define the classification of fire - ABCD and F
  • Define the common causes of fire
  • Identify the hazards inherent in 'smoke'
  • Recognise the basic principals of fire prevention and Fire Risk Assessment
  • Appreciate operating parameters of fire alarm systems
  • Recognise the different types of Fire Extinguishers/Suppression Systems provided in premises
  • Recognise the passive fire protection measures provided in the building and the function of these
  • Describe the general fire safety management provisions within the building
  • Effectively carry out the role of Fire Warden in the designated workplace
Interview Skills

Selecting the right person to fill a post is a vital part of managerial responsibility, getting it wrong is costly and time consuming. This one-day course gives managers the preparation techniques and interviewing skills essential to successful selection. The course will use attendees' own examples of potential vacancies and encourage practice in designing person profiles. These will be used in scenarios for practising interview skills.

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Understand the preparations involved in setting out the criteria for effective selection

This one-day course focuses on the skills and attributes involved in performance review process, usually involving a face-to-face discussion between manager and employee, and achieving effective two-way reviews leading to committed actions. Emphasis is on the review being a joint effort where the employee is fully involved in the process, the discussion and in constructing the subsequent personal development action plans.
